There are many ways to skin a cat. People often think that stiff neck and shoulders need a good stretch. But actually that is often not the case.

Prolonged poor posture at a desk or whilst feeding or carrying a baby leads to the muscles becoming lengthened and therefore weak so often you need three things

Better posture, mobility and strength.

Let’s start with posture:

Sitting at your desk…

Everything about this video is wrong but we all do it!  The long months of lockdown and change in work schedules has meant that we are all using our devices more.

Tips:

Invest in a proper stand for you laptop
Sit properly in your chair
Use a head set
Move around more
Drink water

Mobility

All joints need a good amount of range so sitting at end of range for long periods of time leads to stiffness and weakness.

This is again where posture comes in!

Moving in and out of positions helps maintain range and therefore improve strength in the optimum range. So have a good stretch.
